Jacob enjoys woodworking in his free time because it allows for you to be as creative on a project as you want. Woodworking is fun because almost everybody can do it either by themselves or, with a little help you can also make as big of a project as you want.

He is a student at Springfield High School and in the SHS National Honor Society.  His favorite strokes on the SHS swim team are freestyle and butterfly. He is currently the Company Commander and Color Guard Commander in the SHS Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (MCJROTC).

He made the cutting board in woodworking class. He cut 4 strips of beech and 3 strips of walnut and used a table saw to cut the edge at 45 degrees.  Then he put the pieces together in a way that he thought would look interesting.  After gluing the pieces together, the surfaces were evened on each side using a planer.  Using a table saw, he cross cut the board into strips again.  These strips were turned 90 degrees so the end grain was up and glued them together again. A drum sander was used to smooth both sides.  The board was trimmed to create a square cutting board. He then used an orbital sander to remove sanding marks.  The board was oiled and buffed.  It took approximately 4 to 5 hours to make this cutting board.
